Cynthia launched her fashion modeling career after she moved her career to New York. In a short time, Cynthia signed a 5-year contract to work with Wihelmina Models. It led to a highly successful book and cover for Essence Magazine. Cynthia's first cover was one of Essence's most popular covers and an instant favorite with the editor-in-chief at the time, Susan Taylor. Cynthia would soon book her second cover. It put her career on the right track. Her next move was to Paris and Milan which was which was where she walked on the runways during Paris as well as Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia, who had lived abroad for almost one year, re-emerged in New York City where she was highly sought-after. Advertising campaigns with Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's as well as Macy's were her initial assignments. Editorials in magazines for Vogue, Glamour, Elle, Essence and Vanity Fair soon followed. One of Cynthia's biggest moment in her career was the fact that she was selected over Naomi Campbell for a co-starring role opposite Sandra Bernhadt in the film "Without You I'm Nothing."
